Sustainability is a Life Skill Requirement

Sustainability is a life skill requirement because it is needed in all facets of life for survival.

Ensuring a healthy planet for healthy people. That should be our goal for the moment. It’s past time that we live in the now and pursue a more sustainable lifestyle for ourselves. The mission of Chihuahuan Desert Charities is to cut through the tired thinking that has left us in the ecological mess we find ourselves. We plan to break on through to the other side to a more sustainable future for ourselves. Complaining doesn’t seem to help as much as volunteering and contributing to the correct organizations and movements. We are one of those organizations worth investing your donations in to help turn this ship around.

By donating you will contribute to improved education outcomes for economically disadvantaged children.

So what's the big deal? Why is sustainability so important?

Sustainability is the process of maintaining change in a balanced fashion, in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations”. (Global Footprints)

What is the big deal indeed. What is at stake? Perhaps our health? Our happiness? The difference between passing down ecological suffering to our children and thriving for future generations to come….

Sustainability is a lesson to learn. We need to learn it as a human community. But most of all we need to learn it ourselves. Our personal choices and decisions can feed into a cycle that is sustainable and healthy. We are the master of our own domains. We have complete control over ourselves. We can use that inherent power of being human to contribute to healthier choices. A little bit of commitment compounded over time adds up to significant change. It’s time to turn and face the change head-on. It’s time to control our destiny.

Sustainability is a condition of existence which enables the present generation of humans and other species to enjoy social well-being, a vibrant economy and a healthy environment, and to experience fulfillment, beauty, and joy, without compromising the ability of future generations of human and other species to enjoy the same. --Guy Dauncey,1999
